The Grampians are an example of nature at its finest – rugged rocks and large forests, a wild area filled with wildlife and wildflowers, seemingly permanent. And yet, every few years, the forces of nature – usually large bushfires – threaten to overwhelm it.
From when I was quite young we used to go as a family on holidays to the Grampians, a group of sandstone mountain ranges about three and a half hours drive west of Melbourne. It’s one of my favourite places to be.
I live in Australia. Most people in the world do not. Either they know well enough to keep away, or they do not live long. Australia is as exciting a place to live as any I know. You see, from day to day you can’t even guess which way you might die that day.
